Not just Stephen Hawking - how about Charles P Steinmetz, who was born with Spina Bifida and dwarfism? Steinmetz was also a brilliant scientist who unearthed the physics of lightening.

He spent one entire summer piecing together the tiny shards of a mirror shattered by lightening, revealing for the first time the actual path and picture of a lightening bolt. Can you imagine a "normal" person having the patience to recontruct a shattered mirror?

How about good old dyslectic Albert Einstein, or deaf Thomas Edison. Thank God for loving and concerned parents who do not "dispose" of their "defective" children. Our lives are richer because of their contributions.

I wonder what contributions Cecilia Slaby might have grown up to make?

Maybe little Ceci made her contribution in her short life.  Maybe after all is said and done, there will be a "Ceci's law."

Everything happens for a reason.  No life is wasted.  Everyone touches someone.  (preferably not in a weird way)

Sorry, "The Meaning of Life" is by Viktor Frankl, who was a neurologist, psychiatrist, Holocaust survivor.

Re: Tell Us What You Think

We really don't need a new law - we need a new Prosecutor.

Other County Prosecutors in Ohio seem to be able to prosecute lesser cases than Cecilia's using the current laws of the Ohio Revised Code.

The CHILDREN of Clermont County will never be safe as long as our Prosecutor prevents proper Police investigation into such occurrences.

The CITIZENS of Clermont County will never be safe as long as we are nothing more than pawns to be traded in a game of "political favors" between County Commissioners and other politicians.

Remember AMY BAKER and BRENDA SLABY next November when you will be asked to vote for a new Clermont County Prosecutor in 2008. The statute of limitations is TWO YEARS from August 23, 2007 in the Slaby case.

    Time is on our side.

Ceci's Law could be "no one Prosecutor has all encompassing power to ejudicate a case without due process"

I was going to correct your "typo" to ADJUDICATE, but on second thought, you may be right.

In Latin, EJUDICATE would mean to lead AWAY from justice, as opposed to ADJUDICATE which would mean lead TOWARD justice.

I am wrong - you used the perfect word.

I'm glad my typo ended up being the right word.

And to think, I'm funnier when I don't try to be!!! LOL

At least I almost spelled it right.  Except its not a typo after all.  (and, I used it correctly in a sentence)

perhaps if Brenda Slaby had faced a judge in Kentucky she would not have walked.  Just today(Dec 6, 2007) in Flemingsburg, KY  Toni Babrber was sentenced to jail.  She left her two children in a hot van overnight.  When she returned her little boy was dead(18 months old) his sister 2 and a half survived.  Toni was sentenced to 10 years in prison: 8 for the death of the baby and two more for criminal endangering.  This incident happened Aug 2, 2006.  Yes Brenda Slaby should be in jail!!!!!!!!!!

Who has the 2 1/2 year old girl?  Is she okay?  Any long term damage?

Nice to know Kentucky cares about kids.

I hope that's a good thing.  At least, maybe he learned something from the mother and won't leave the child in a hot vehicle.

Re: Tell Us What You Think

It just goes to show what type of legal system we now have. I have heard of just about everything but to be able to not go to jail and now to get a settlement so that you don't have to go back to work. What is wrong with this? This is unbelieveable that we live in a society that lets these things happen. I agree that it is all about who you know. Yes, I am sure that she is suffering from the situation. But where is the justice for this little girl? Her mom left her in the vehicle more than once. So how many times is there an accident? We all know that she is in a better place where people will take care of her now. But her mother is able to do whatever she wants to do, and now has extra money in her pocket. Not that she needs it but she does. Its abosolutely not fair.

Re: Tell Us What You Think

The WC school district did absolutely the right thing by paying Slaby off and getting her away from our children.

What is outrageous is that the woman had the audacity to insist she wanted to go back to work where her daughter died and that she extorted her way into a buyout. Now she has a letter to indicate that the buyout was "amicable" -- that means she intends to find another job in the field.

If I am ever threatened with jail time, I want Scott Croswell as my attorney.

    Kate, how's that petition going?

Re: Tell Us What You Think

and will someone please explain to me what grounds this woman has to apply for, let alone recieve, any type of disability payment?
  •  12-11-2007, 3:06 PM 2272157 in reply to 2271912

Re: Tell Us What You Think

The short-term disability payments were a way to stall so that the school board would not have to pay her off right away. These payments were a good idea. The insurance company was paying - not the taxpayers.

I don't know the terms of the settlement yet, but I think that $1 is too much blackmail to pay a woman who ADMITTEDLY KILLED HER OWN CHILD.

It is unfortunate that the school board blinked during this stalemate. I assume that Croswell was threatening them with legal action if they didn't meet some sort of deadline.

    More details to follow.
