I am a dog person and I have encountered several breeds over the years. I was not planning on getting a chihuahua ever but at my local shelter in 2005 they had a chihuahua for adoption. The shelter got him and few others from a puppy mill. Anyways, when my little Sam came out he was scared and shaking but I felt this instant connection with him. He didn't know how to walk on a leash nor was he potty trained. After about a week he was finally potty trained and was walking on a leash. Never have I seen even a puppy (Sam was 2.5 years old at the time) learn that quickly! Sam became more confident in himself and even today he is sooo proud! Well in 2006 we adopted our 2nd chihuahua Gracie. She was a pup and instantly Sam and Gracie bonded. She also is very smart and has a personality to match. She too is very affectionate and loving. I never would have seen myself adopting chihuahua's until Sept 2005 when I met my Sammy. If you are conteplating whether to adopt a chihuahua I would reccommend it if you want a lap dog who is not only smart, but who is very affectionate and loyal! If you have questions about chihuahuas from a personal standpoint please do not hesitate to ask me!

Cats are horrible leaders. Have you ever tried talking to one? They just sit there licking themselves. They are too self-absorbed to worry about your problems. Nothing would ever get done with a cat mayor. (Other than construction of a ‘Cat House’, that is). These animals murder birds! In a 24-hour day cats are energetic for a mere 30 minutes! How do they spend that time? By chasing squirrels. How disgusting! Think about this… when a cat chases a squirrel up a tree only one of them is coming back down without the assistance of the Fire Companies Ladder Truck! Does Rabbit Hash have a Ladder truck? Do they have a fire department?

A Donkey? He is running on the platform of change. A certain fish I knew was in a frying pan. He desired some change so he flopped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Apparently not all change is good! The donkey is a pacifist. If elected he has vowed to end the Civil War. Does he really believe that Kentuckians and Ohioans can co-exist peacefully? He said he would support marriages between two women, two men, or a man and an animal. The liberals may be ‘excited’ about his position here but I know many sheep and chickens that are very concerned!

Nine dogs? Can’t go wrong with that, right? After all, the last 3 mayors were dogs. But has Rabbit Hash progressed under their administrations? Is being barred from entering the General store a move forward? Picture this, the Board of Health trying to catch a squirrel to enforce their archaic laws. I mock the Board of Health. Don’t get me wrong about dogs, I do like and respect these ole fleabags. I just believe that I’m a better candidate. I’m not saying that dogs are lazy, but if you hid their grocery money under their work boots… they’d starve to death.

What can I say about the pig? Well, if you put lipstick on a pig… If elected, how about we put him on a spit over a pit fire for about 8 hours? Sounds like a good celebration dinner to me!

I would like to be the next mayor of Rabbit Hash. I promise a rabbit in every pot.

We are writing on behalf of Sgt. Gwen Beberg and her dog Ratchet in Iraq.

Sgt. Gwen Beberg befriended puppy Ratchet while serving in Iraq. The U.S. military confiscated Ratchet as Sgt. Beberg prepared to fly home from Baghdad Airport. Operation Baghdad Pups, a program run by SPCA International, is pleading with the U.S. Army to allow Ratchet to fly out of the country - amid fears the dog awaits almost certain death if left behind.

Ratchet ONLY has until EARLY NEXT WEEK– time is of the essence here.

M.A.R.S. Safe Haven has a petition set up at:

www.thepetitionsite.com/2/clemency-for-ratchet

Together, over 4,400 people have signed – just in the past 24 hours – pleading that Ratchet be immediately released by the military and allowed to be brought home. An article pleading for his release has been read by over 45,000 people since Monday.

Please take a few moments to look at the petitions and hear the thousands of voices crying out for the U.S. military authorities to “do the right thing.”

ISSUE 1: Ratchet is not allowed to leave. Since officers are refusing to let Ratchet go, he needs a military order to officially release him to leave Iraq.

ISSUE 2: Operation Baghdad Pups (www.baghdadpups.com) needs donations to sponsor their upcoming trip to Iraq. Ratchet is running out of time. Ratchet was scheduled to leave on their October 6th flight. Their next flight is early next week, and Ratchet MUST be on it. If not, Sgt. Beberg will be forced to abandon him to certain death when she is transferred later this month.

Please help SPCA International, Operation Baghdad Pups and the thousands of people worldwide supporting this cause to secure Ratchet’s release from the military authorities. cause.

We understand the economic crisis and presidential election may seem far more news worthy at this time. However, we see far too much death, sadness and negativity these days. Here is a chance to show our true character, humanity and compassion as Americans.

We just want to get the word out to as many people as possible that the polls are open for the Mayoral Race in Rabbit Hash KY. So far, all the candidates are pets, and our dog, a red and white border collie named Lucy Lou is among the favored! If elected, Lucy will become the 3rd canine mayor of our historic hamlet.

As with politics everywhere, whoever has the most money wins, so in Rabbit Hash we charge $1 a vote... stuffing the ballot is encouraged. (100% of the money collected will benefit the Rabbit Hash Historical Society for the preservation of the town.)

To learn more about Lucy Lou and her stand on the issues, you can visit her web page at www.myspace.com/lucylouformayor. There is a link to the Historical Society's site where you can vote via PayPal, and you can also vote in person at the Rabbit Hash General Store.

Vote Now! Well, yesterday, my dog got lose while my boyfriend was walking our other dog. This dog down on the corner has tormented my dog since we moved in to our new apt. Lefty somehow got up under the dogs fence and chased him into his house and they got into a fight. The other dogs owner stuck his hand in the middle an got a lil scrape. Well..the police and everybody got involved..Now my dog is under a quarantine and can't be around nobody else, and there's a chance he'll get put to sleep. To top it all off..news reporters show up at my house about a pitbull attack. Lefty is 3, and I've had him since he was 4wks old. I raised this dog, and in his 3 years this is the first time he's EVER bit another dog. People are trying to put pitbulls out like there these real mean and vicious dogs. So people, I'm asking for your help. If anybody owns a pitbull an has pictures and/or videos of their pit interacting friendly with other dogs and/or people, please send it in to channel 12 news. Let's show these people that pitbulls are not mean and vicious killers. It's all in how they're raised. Please people help me..Lefty's like my child.
Having a hard time finding a male to mate with my toy poodle

Looking for a full bred male 3-5 lb toy poodle to mate with my full bred toy poodle. I have been very unsuccessful in finding one. We have bred her once ( our stud moved away) and she makes beautiful babies. Her pups are all 1.5 yrs old now (we keep up with the owners) and are between 4.5-6 lbs. We kept the runt (3 oz. at birth) she is 3.5 lbs now. If anyone has any suggestions other than the vet or the groomers or Craigs list...those aren't panning out and I am tired of waiting!!!

I have been a dog owner all my life. From childhood, even before I can remember my family has always owned at least one dog. When one passed, it wasn't long before we had another to fill the family void. I think, in all, in my lifetime I've been associated with five dogs, whether they were bought by my parents, or myself. Every one, part of the family.
Bruno was a German Sheppard, Spud was a mutt Terrier of some sort, Smokie was an Alaskan Malamute, Lutch is an American Pit Bull Terrier, and the latest additions Chico and Julio are Chiuauas. Only the last three mentioned are still with us. We had to give Smokie away because he was just too big, needed so much attention, and was showing signs of aggression. Spud and Bruno spent their time with us and went peacefully. But it's the last three I wish to speak about.

We've had Lutch (our Pit Bull) for almost three years now. He was given to us by a family member who was moving and couldn't take him along. My wife and I had the usual reservations about owning a Pit Bull. She and I can honestly say that he's turned out to be the best dog either she or I have ever owned. His obedience, loyalty, pride, diligence, affection, and love of family and friends are just a few of his awesome characteristics. His abilities seem untapped and endless as we keep teaching him new things. His capability to catch, fetch, run, and especially jump are mind-blowing. And man does he love other dogs.

He continually stares out the front door (one of his favorite things to do), and watches the neighbors' kids and dogs, whining and wishing he could go out to play with them. We take him on walks around the neighborhood, and the dogs that don't necessarily stay in their yards seem to follow us. He just walks proud as can be, only noticing to seemingly say hello. He cries and whines to take rides in the car, baths, and walks alike. He's spent time with other dogs for whole days or weeks at a time throughout his life, and there's never been a single incident of aggression, whether with people, kids, dogs, cats, or any creature for that matter. He's even spent time with the afforementioned Chiuauas, Chico and Julio, out at my mother's house (where they live). Chico even seems to dominate him, snapping at him and the like. Lutch just takes it in stride, seeming to strive for his approval. He's just an amazing dog, really.

And now the Ohio State Legislation is trying to ban Pit Bulls. If Ohio's lawmakers pass this bill, I'm afraid I'll have to leave the state that I proudly call home. Make me choose Ohio or Lutch...I'll take Lutch and be on my way.

He stares out the front door (one of his favorite things to do), and continually watches the neighbors' kids and dogs, whining and wishing he could go out to play with them.

Sadly,

His friend's pit bull had just had a litter of pups and he fell head over heels in love with one of them, "Oh, Mom, she's beautiful, she's brindle with white stripe down her nose, and she's so sweet, please Mom please can I have her?" And I kept saying no no no. Well finally I said "Okay Tyler. But let's be clear on this. She's your dog. You take her out, you feed her, you will be the one taking her to the vet for shots and spaying and all that stuff, she's your dog. And make it understood with them that if we have any problems with her, she's coming right back. I'm not going to have a pit bull running my house." And he was so happy. On July 3rd, 2004, when I came home from work, I was met at the door by a wriggling drooling ball of striped fur. And he was right, she was sweet, easy to housebreak and he took her almost every where he went. On the night of July 29, I came home and she was in her crate. And Tyler wasn't home from his date yet. So I tooke her out to potty and then we laid down on my bed to wait for him to come home. And then I got the phone call that changed life as we knew it. Tyler had been killed in a car accident 1/2 mile from home. And I grabbed up that little pup in my arms and cried into her fur. And we have been inseperable every since. She is my living link to him and I will keep her safe and happy and healthy in honor of him for as long as the Lord sees fit for me to do so. And that's how I got my best friend, Tipsi. (He named her that b/c his favorite song was that "everybody in the club gettin tipsy").

Machi

We were coming back from a camping trip just north of New Orleans, where we had played medieval games in armor, and it had rained all week. Our wet camping stuff and armor was piled in the back of the van, and we smelled ripe. We stopped at a rest area at the Tennessee-Kentucky line. There was this dog there. This nasty, raggedy dog, moving like it was thirteen years old. It walked up to my knight, Omarad, a 6 foot 4 inch 450 pound guy, who was contemplating the snack machines. This nasty dog walked up to him, full of obsequiousness, and asked him for a doughnut. And he got it.

The attendant noticed that we were feeding the dog, and told us that the sheriff had already been called to “get rid of it.” She had been spraying it with a hose, trying to get it to leave. I looked at this poor old thing, munching on its second doughnut, and I was in awe of its talent. It also had a build and hair similar to my dog Aw-Z, who had passed away the previous year. Watching him beg doughnuts off of Omarad I just thought, “I can’t leave talent like that on the side of the road,” and I asked my husband if we could take the dog home. Now keep in mind we were still five or six hours from home. He told me no, with a few cuss words thrown in, and we all got in the van. Omarad mentioned how sweet the dog had been, and it was a shame the sheriff was going to shoot him. I whispered, barely audible, “He reminds me of Aw-Z.”

At this point, my husband cussed, threw the van into reverse, and backed back into the parking space. “Go get the #$%^^%# dog!” he said.

The dog walked up to me when it thought I had food, but it wasn’t sure about getting into the van. I was afraid to pick it up, as it was at least sixty pounds, and it was obviously uncomfortable around me. However, I managed to boost it into the car, and discovered that there was something worse than the smell of wet canvas and armor: A male dog covered with musk, muck, and urine!

We finally got the dog home, and I had to leave for two days to go pick up my daughter and my other dog. This creature could barely move, and I figured he was around thirteen years old, and we might have to have the vet put the poor old thing out of its misery.

Forty eight hours later, I returned home to find that this “poor old dog” had fully recovered, and was a nine month old puppy! I spent weeks brushing out his hair, trying to gain his trust. Thanks to the hosing he had experienced at the rest area, he detested water in any form. Eight years later, bathing is still an issue.

My daughter named him “Machi”, and I wondered where the two year old got the name, as little kids aren’t very original (she had named the cat Noni after Lilo and Stich’s sister). This crazy puppy managed to wrap the whole family around his extra dew claws, except the German Shepherd, Nitro. Occasionally Nitro and Machi would get into a fight, usually over food, and I would storm in to save my poor little Machi. Nitro would drop in supplication, and Machi would continue to cry like he was getting his ears torn off, all the while running to the food bowl to scarf it down while Nitro was being punished. I noticed that Clifford the Big Red Dog had a Machi on it, which is where my daughter got the name. One day I found out that the cartoon dog’s full name was Machiavelli, and I realized how perfectly named our dog truly was.

Machi’s not the perfect dog. He doesn’t always come when he’s called, and his heel is horrible. However, he is great with the kids, and doesn’t tear up things in the house, so we really can’t complain. In his advanced age he has developed even more talents. You can set three beer mugs on his back while he stands there, and he can serve as a foot stool or an end table. And he has a superpower! If you punch him in the side, he has a layer of fat that will absorb an average blow.

My golden retriever is missing

Please help! This afternoon about 12:30pm my golden retriever escaped from the backyard. It is now 6:30pm and he is still not back. I live in the Mt.
I am here to tell emmas story. She is a five month old australian shepard and one of the loves of my life. Yesterday she was diagnosed with dysplasia in her hips and one of her elbows. We rescued her from a pet store where she had been for awhile. They were wonderful with her and are doing what they can to help us. We have been told that she needs a surgery to correct this while she is still little. Our wonderful veteranarian has referred us to a specialist that she will see on november 6. Her x-rays show that her case is moderate to severe. The surgery is only an option while she is young. Our family is devistated. We dont know how we will pay for her surgery but we are doing what we can to try to raise money. We also want to raise awareness on the proper breeding of dogs. We believe that the breeder knew she had this. We were given the option to return her but that was not an option. We love her very much . If you could just keep us in your prayers. She will always have a home with us not matter what happens.

missing dog

Our precious doggie, a black maltese/poodle mix has been missing since Friday morning November 9.

In the Summer of 2006. She was found in a abandon house in the winter. A kill shelter picked her up and then turned her over to HMDD,s.
I was at a agility trial in the spring of 2006 asking all of the Doberman owners where they had gotten their Dobe. This is when I met Jocelyn Mullins, she told me all about Addy and about HMDD,s. I couldn,t wait to get home to look her up on Pet Finder, once I did I fell in love with. I then took my 2 Toy Fox Terriers that I show also, up to meet Addy. It was a go!! We all loved her. Addy now travels every where we go. She goes Hiking, camping, swimming and once a week goes to the Hamilton Dog Training Club for Rally Class. In December of 2006 Addy got her CGC title, in March of 2007 she has gotten her Rally Novice title and hopefully by June 2007 Addy will have her Rally Advaced title as well.
This all comes from a Doberman { Addy } who they had stopped taking to the mingles because she was not getting along with the other dogs. Now Addy attends Dog Show with hundreds of dogs. I have alot more in store for Addy's future and I'am sure she has alot more in store for my future as well.

Thank You for show caseing Doberman Rescues
Janis Overholser and Addy " Mr. Twisters Half Sister
LLAMA: From trash to family treasure!

It was Monday, garbage day, about 14 years ago when we noticed a bird cage with a baby kitten inside laid on our trash can. The kitten was about half the size of the palm of my hand. I had always been a dog lover, but someone knew we were suckers for a pet in need. We nursed the kitten to good health, coming home from work to feed it with a dropper. When it came time to name the little guy, we chose the Spanish word for name, "llama". Llama has been a perfect pet and loving family member ever since. He is living proof that one man's garbage is another man's treasure!
