    First Day of Fall

The calendar says Autumn began Monday, at 11:44 A.M as the meteorologists made sure we noted, but today finally feels like Fall.

    Re: First Day of Fall

I can wait for winter as long as we get a nice long cool rainy fall, with our first snowfall in time for Thanksgiving! :-)

Waiting for the fall colors, but all I see around me are yellowed and dead brown leaves. :(  Oh well, winter is just around the next corner and I am sure that we will all ooh and aah at the pretty snowflakes, until we have to get up and trudge to work in the stuff!!!!!

    Re: First Day of Fall

Colors will likely be very bad this year.  Drought conditions and all the damage the winds created will not be helping the colors.

It will feel much more like fall later this week as a strong upper low drops in and stalls over the Great Lakes.  This will provide us with some of the coolest air of the season so far.

Okay John, I can take the lowere temps as long as you promise me that we will be getting some rain too!! This lack of rain certainly is not helping to maintain the "curb appeal" on my house which will make it harder to sell!!

    Re: First Day of Fall

I know exactly what your are saying. It is like when you were still in school and your mother had the radio on WLW in the morning to listen for the school closings. You would lay in bed with your eyes closed holding your breath waiting to see if your school was closed for the day. As soon as they announced your school was closed, you exhaled and the was wide awake (on normal school days you would have been complaining about being tired). Does that sound like snowday mornings for you? I still get that feeling when I am looking at the school closing list on Local 12.

I'm all for the snow any time!  While we wait, what are the record highs and lows for October? I know we've had snow in October but I don't remember the year(s).

    Re: First Day of Fall

Yes we have had snow in October. The one I remember the most was in October of 1989. We got several inches of the white stuff. It was a very wet heavy snow and there were still leaves on the trees. Well a lot of limbs came down and there were many power outages.  I remember this storm because I had just started a new job a week before and tried for over an hour to get to work. When I couldn't get there I called my new boss who informed me that the office was closed!!! So I went and got my little girl and we made cookies and hot chocolate!!!!

    Re: First Day of Fall

I believe it was the middle of Oct. '89 when we had that major ice storm, similar to the one this past Feb.  I don't recall the snow as much as the significant ice that caused widespread damage to trees and powerlines.
