Checking the records, I see that we had 5.9'' on October 30, 1993 and another 0.3'' on October 31 (both are all time records for those days).

20 years ago on October 20, 1989 October 19, 2009 we had a record (and early) 5'' snowfall.
The heavy snow plus leaf covered trees caused many downed limbs and power outages. It's time to find your snow brushes so you aren't caught by surprise.

Wow, 40 inches.
I remember Tony Sands predicting we would have several blizzards the year after the Blizzard of '78, of course he was doing this as part of someone's advertisements for 4 wheel drive vehicles.
